Another Donation for Sailors Help Haiti

We’d like to thank Simon Kurts who has donated two spinnakers from the famous old yacht “Love and War”. It’s great to see yachties pitching in to help the people of Haiti. With the wet season approaching its vital to provide the Haitians with some shelter. With the help of the North Sails Australia loft we can recut these old sails into tent like structures. The wonderful people of Haiti Christian Mission Australia will help distribute the sails to desperate families and help reduce the risk of disease.

2 Spinnakers Donated!!!

We'd like to thank Chris Hoskings who donated two spinnakers from the yacht Ran on behalf of its owners Niklas and Katherine Zennstrom. Ran, a 72 footer from the UK, came to Sydney to compete in the Sydney to Hobart Yacht race and is the first boat to get onboard and help the people of Haiti.

Lets hope this is the first donation of many and that other owners are motivated by the generosity of the Zennstrom's.

SPINNAKERS ONLY

At this stage our biggest hurdle is the cost of shipping. Obviously the weight of working sails can be quite substantial and therefore costly to ship. This means that at the moment we are restricted to sending spinnaker material over to Haiti.

Maybe we can also find a shipping agency willing to help the Haiti Christian Mission to ship shelters over and we would then be able to extend production to working sails as well.

In the meantime though hopefully we can come up with plenty of big old spinnakers to help the Haitians. Email us if you can help sailorshelp_haiti@y7mail.com

Sailors to help Haiti: Tom Braidwood is calling all yachties to help the survivors of the Haiti Earthquake

One of the biggest problems the Haitians are facing is enough shelter. The wet season is quickly approaching and a solution is needed as soon as possible. As all yachties know, there are thousands of old sails lying around in garages and containers all over Australia. Tom’s plan is to turn these old useless items into tarps and tent shelters.

Tom has approached Michael Coxon, managing director of North Sails (Australia) who is excited to be involved and has offered the use of his loft to turn the sails into shelters. Debbie of Haitian Christian Mission Australia is also on board is thrilled to be able to ensure the shelters reach the people who need them most.
